Three police officers were taken to hospital after being attacked by a mob of people they were attempting to disperse after initially being called to a house fire.
Violence broke out on Hob Moor Road in Small Heath, Birmingham, then spread into a second nearby road at around 1.30am this morning, police said.
West Midlands Police said they are investigating the ‘violent disorder’.
A statement read: ‘Fortunately, there were no injuries caused to anyone as a result of the fire, however, three police officers were assaulted after a large group gathered and were told to disperse.
‘All three officers were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
‘A man has been arrested on suspicion of assault of a police officer and remains in police custody. Enquiries continue.’
The moment the violence erupted was caught on camera, according to BirminghamLive. Video allegedly shows a group of men shouting and grappling with two officers – one of whom could be heard drawing his baton.
The anger reportedly escalated when one of the group was hit with a baton and other officers ordered the men to stand back – with a third officer forced to step in to help the situation.
